Meet the Staff

David Steidley, Director of Bands

Mr. Steidley currently serves as Director of Bands at McAlester Public Schools. At McAlester, he co-directs the Pride of McAlester Marching Band, conducts the Wind Ensemble, High School and Middle School Orchestras (which he re-instituted six years ago), 6th grade beginning band, and musical pit orchestra. 

During his high school years, Mr. Steidley was a member of the McAlester band. He earned the honor of membership in the Oklahoma Music Educators Association All-State Band and Orchestra on clarinet and cello his sophomore, junior and senior years of high school. After graduating, he received a full band scholarship to attend the University of Arkansas.  While at U of A., he received the Directors Award. After graduation from the University of Arkansas in 1988, Mr. Steidley was hired by Eufaula Public Schools. While at Eufaula, he was selected as Teacher of the Year for EPS in 1991.

Mr. Steidley has been a band director for 23 years; 11 years at Eufaula High School and 12 years at McAlester High School.  During his 23 years of teaching, Mr. Steidley’s bands have received numerous honors and awards, including the OSSAA Sweepstakes award 14 times, a rare accomplishment in the state.  His marching bands have always made finals at the Oklahoma Bandmasters state marching band competition; normally placing in the top six in state each year. In 2010, Mr. Steidley was selected as the receipient of the Southeastern Oklahoma Band Directors Association and Oklahoma Bandmasters Association Band Director of the Year. 

He and his wife Robin live in McAlester, and recently celebrated their 21th wedding anniversary.

Sean DeNike, Assistant Director of Bands

Mr. DeNike currently serves as Assistant Director of Bands and Percussion Coordinator at McAlester Public Schools.  At McAlester his responsiblities include directing the MHS Drumline, Frontline Ensemble (Pit), and Percussion Ensemble which includes the Steel Drum Ensemble and African Marimba Ensemble, 7th Grade Band, 6th Grade Beginning Percussion Class, and assisting with the Middle School Orchestra.

Jamie Price, Assistant Director of Bands

Mrs. Price currently serves as Assistant Director of Bands and Instructor of Woodwinds at McAlester Public Schools. At McAlester her responsiblities include assisting with The Pride of McAlester Marching Band and Wind Ensemble, directing the MHS Woodwind Choir, JV Color Guard, and Basketball Pep Band, 8th Grade Band, 6th Grade Beginning Woodwind Class, and 5th Grade Music Appreciation Class.

Mrs. Price graduated from Antlers High School in 2001.  She graduated Cum Laude from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music Education.  While attending Southeastern,  she served as Drum Major, principal clarinetist, and earned membership in the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band for 4 years (1st chair in 2008).  She earned her Master of Education from East Central University in 2009.  Before coming to McAlester in 2007, Mrs. Price was assistant band director at Lone Grove Public Schools for one year.

Mark Price, Assistant Director of Bands

Mr. Price currently serves as Assistant Director of Bands and Brass Coordinator at McAlester Public Schools.  At McAlester his responsiblities include, co-directing The Pride of McAlester Marching Band, conducting the High School Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Basketball Pep Band, 6th Grade Beginning Brass Class, 5th Grade Music Appreciation class, and brass instrument repair.

Mr. Price graduated from Pottsboro High School in Pottsboro, TX in 2002 where he earned membership in the TMEA All-State Jazz Band, ATSSB All-Area Band, and ATSSB All-Region Jazz and Concert Bands on trumpet.  While in High School, he served as lead trumpet for the Greater Texoma Jazz Orchestra.  He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2007 and Master of Education from East Central University in 2009.  As section leader and lead trumpet for the Spirit of Southeastern Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Ensemble, he earned membership in Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band for three years.  He also served as President of the Etu Nu Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honor Band Fraternity and MENC Collegiate Chapter.  Before coming to McAlester, Mr. Price served as the Director of Bands at Dewar Public Schools for three years.

He and his wife Jamie have been married for five years and live in McAlester.

Robin Steidley, Color Guard Instructor

Mrs. Robin Steidley has served as the Color Guard and Winter Guard director at McAlester High School since 1996. In Addition, Mrs. Steidley also teaches Spanish I-IV.  Before coming to McAlester, she coached Eufaula High School Color Guard for 11 years.  Mrs. Steidley has her bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Social Studies. She also has her Masters degree in Secondary Education with specialization in Spanish Education along with additional hours towards a degree in Administration.  Prior to becoming a teacher, she served in the United States Navy for 14 years and retired early as a Weapons Technician Chief Petty Officer. 

She and her husband David Steidley have been married for 21 years.
